Our customer wanted to automate an existing set of double swing gates while ensuring the installation met the highest safety standards for a busy site. Following a detailed site survey and risk assessment, we identified several potential hazards that required additional safety measures. The project also included securing a separate pedestrian entrance with modern access control that integrated with the customer's existing security infrastructure.
Our solution
We automated the gates using DEA Sting 24V ram motors, providing a reliable solution designed for frequent daily use. To maximise safety, we installed horizontal safety edges on both sides of the lower gate edges and a vertical safety edge to protect the entrapment point between the gate leaves. Finger guards were fitted to the hinge points and gate tethers were installed to prevent the gates from falling in the unlikely event of hinge failure.
External photocells were installed to monitor the gate approach, while an Optex safety beam was fitted internally where the car park layout prevented the use of traditional photocells. The system also includes secure remote cloud connectivity, allowing our engineers to monitor the installation, diagnose faults and minimise downtime.
Alongside the gate automation, we installed secure access control for the pedestrian gate using Hikvision video intercoms. The new system was integrated with the customer's existing Salto network, allowing current users to continue accessing the site with their existing credentials.

The customer now benefits from a reliable, fully compliant automated entrance solution that combines safe vehicle access with secure pedestrian entry. By integrating with their existing access control system and enabling remote diagnostics, the installation delivers improved security, greater convenience and faster support whenever it's needed.
